Daydreamin'

Beginning initially as a dream of mine, the story has two main perspectives: me writing the piece, and the person that I am in the dream.
Colonel McDeary yawns, stretching his muscles back to wakefulness. He sits up in his bed and stares out at the crowd of cookie-cutter homes in, what used to be, a farming area built by the old race of humans. So much time has passed that he can't even picture what the empty land would look like. His alarm sounds and breaks him away from his thoughts; it's time for work.
