Nella Roma di oggi, il giovane musicista Tomas, sfortunato sul palco come in amore, riceve dallo zio archeologo tre antiche tavole d'argilla dedicate alla dea Inanna trafugate dal tempio di Ninive.
Dopo la morte misteriosa dello zio, leggendone il diario Tomas scopre come la distruzione del tempio per mano dei terroristi islamici ha risvegliato un nugolo di antichi demoni sumeri, i quali danno la caccia alle tre tavole d'argilla, fonti di potere. Hanno già inseguito e tormentato l'archeologo durante il suo pauroso ritorno a Roma, e la stessa sorte atroce sembra dover toccare a lui.
La dea Inanna, che in Italia è famosa come modella con il nome di Isa Tar, si presenta da Tomas per prendere le tavolette e conduce lui e la sua amica Abbey, inglesina dalla lingua svelta, verso lo scontro con l'orribile demone Asag.
