Nix knows what it feels like to not belong. She grew up with legs in a family of mermaids. She doesn't understand why she never could transform, but is content with the other mermaid abilities to not only breathe under water but also be able to control it.
She is sent off to attend Syreni Boarding School like all other teenagers between the ages of 14-18. As if being in a school full of judgmental mer wasn't bad enough she has to deal with the fact that she sticks out like a sore thumb with her pale blond, almost white hair. And her eyes are just the icing on the cake, indigo blue with gold flecks.
Nix's only light in the darkness of her isolation is a boy with light curly brown hair and amber eyes. He may just hold all the answers to her questions, but can she over come her habits of distancing herself from others? Can she handle the truth?
Cool Kids is a story about the struggle of standing out and learning how it isn't always a bad thing.
