A world in which love is illegal. Merely kissing someone can land you in jail. Sometimes having even a friendship with someone can get you in trouble with the law. Fairy tales are no longer love stories, instead they're one person going through life alone. It's not two lonely people who find each other. It's one lonely person, who gets a well paying job. It's one person frowning upon people breaking the law, frowning upon love.
Macy Turner always was the good girl. Always the one to believe the tales. Never the one to ask what love is, where her parents are. She was always the one to frown at the light in someone's eyes, the light that came after their first kiss with the one they loved. Or at least that's what people saw. I mean, the people taking care of her were the most strict in the system. She'd asked who her parents were, but she was never answered, never heard. She was fighting a smile when she saw true love. She was fight anger, frustration and a frown when they were arrested for the true love.
Axel Herring, with a name like that you'd think he'd be the most wanted guy in school. But no. All the goody two shoes hated him for his parents and what the school had told them. And all the people constantly in detention because of their beliefs in true love, knew he didn't believe in it. He's the one guy who she knows is hated by both sides.
She believes in love, he doesn't. Both of them have been through hurt, she can see his damaged soul, and she wants to know why.
