Arabella Lane's life took a drastic turn for the worst when a terrible car accident took her mother's life. She not only lost her much needed mother, but she lost her loving father. Tom Lane was never the same after his wife died. He felt his soul rip out of his chest that day when he saw his mutilated wife's body being pulled out of a decimated car. Tom didn't even seem to remember that he had to stay strong for his little girl. All he could think was, the one person that Tom had given himself to, was gone forever.

This led to a life filled with gambling and drinking for Tom. He became a hateful and moody man. All the constant mood swings led to beatings for Arabella. Growing up with the beatings made her think that the beating were normal and that she deserved whatever her father threw at her.

After moving to a small town in California during Arabella's senior year, she meets Seth Taylor. Their relationship grows with the help of Seth breaking Arabella's walls. 

But keeping secrets from each other and Tom Lane's abusive tendencies leads to dire problems, problems that could take a life.
