Alicia and Zane have gone through a lot together. The bulk of their journey had them losing a lot, but they've finally gained one of the things they value the most; a chance at a normal life. With that dream in their grasp, everything is perfect, as long as Alicia continues to ignore her thirst for blood.

Months after returning home after the showdown with two of their worst enemies and narrowly missing the vampire leader Storm, Alicia and Zane struggle to maintain the perfect "normal" life they've built. Both of them attend school, Zane has a job, they have a nice group of friends, and Alicia's well on her way to regaining her family's trust. But with everything going so well (in relative terms), the possibility of everything going wrong hangs over their heads.

Just as she feared, the lies Alicia's so carefully piled up begin to fall apart so she's forced to scramble for the pieces. It's a struggle to keep up with school, her family's secrets, and Jake's newfound obsession with hunters. With so much at stake, the pressure is on.

Not only that, but Zane quickly realizes that getting his telepathy back might not have been the best thing when it starts interfering with this "perfect" life that he promised Alicia. And when Zane finds out that it's harder than he thought to ignore his father's shady business back home, he has a tough decision to make. The question is, will he make it with Alicia or do this on his own? Will either of them be able to help the other when they're so busy trying to help themselves?

And with the two of them distracted, how easy will it be for the vampire hunters to move in? What if the hunters aren't the only ones they should be worried about?
