Ever since the Beast overthrew the King three years ago, the country of Fabel has been on the edge of chaos and Annalise's nameless village is one of many places hanging onto order by a fraying thread. With only a thin stretch of danger infested forest away from the old castle, it's prime hunting ground for the Beast. As if fending off regular attacks weren't enough, denying the advances of a monster hunter turns out to be harder than it ought to be, especially since Anna already has an engagement ring on her finger.

But it only takes one broken bargain to shatter everything Annalise knows.

To save her father from a fatal mistake, Anna agrees to take his place as the Beast's prisoner. But she hasn't given up on going home so she strikes a deal of her own. She can leave the castle, but only if she breaks the curse that binds the Beast - a curse he can't tell her how to break.

But as Anna struggles to figure out how to release the Beast from his enchantment before time runs out, she catches the attention of the Enchantress who first cast it, an Enchantress with a long memory and unfinished business.

And she doesn't plan on fighting fair.
