Yancey finds a strange pop-up ad for a video game on her screen late one night, intriguingly titled "King Me". Not one for pop-ups, but a gaming addict, she clicks in and finds the game prompts her to select her five kings. With a little tutorial readthrough, she learns that kings are humans with the greatest level of skill in a certain field to ever live. She begins selections as any RPG gamer might; a tank king, necromancer king, and a bard king. Some tingle in the back of her mind tells her this isn't a regular game. That, and the fact that each king has their own pictures of a real person and information. Her next selection is made off of a favorite movie of hers, selecting the Drift King. A racecar driver in an RPG? Not the strangest thing she's heard of, but certainly not typical. She continues with this selection of irregulars to add an interesting taste to the game, finishing her selections with a Strategy King. With her selection finished, she finds herself instantly taken to a new world. Her choices hadn't been for a video game; they'd been made to create a team to participate in a combat tournament far across the universe. Her troubles only grow as she finds her selection has virtually no combatants, and that they are all now expected to fight otherworldly Kings selected by alien races-- fights that often end in death. Not just their death, mind you. A losing team has their world destroyed. Can our rag-tag team of losers somehow manage to defeat monsters dug up from the depths of the dark unknown?
