After MK-175 wiped out 99% of the Earth's adult population, 5 adults remained. They formed The Circle with Joanna Kirk as their leader. The Circle became our government. They decided that teenagers would now come to be the adults of our time, they were given a choice, banishment 
 or working life. 
MK-175 kills everyone at age 21, all except The Circle who are somehow immune.

On judgement day Kira was given the choice - join the sentries or face banishment. She takes the obvious choice and joins the sentries. Here she meets instructor Isaac, the best sentinel alive. They don't about the ghost of a girl peaking around corners for her entire life because even home wasn't safe. They don't know about the fighter of steel and iron sucking on his bloody lip courtesy of the wars he battles in as nothing but a shadow. They don't know about the masked villain who would do anything to see the army they lead claim the throne They don't know about us. But they will, because we will rise. Although the wall was great in length it could only cover 1/3 of the earths land. Humans had peacefully lived behind the wall for over 500 years but the population was rising and there was no longer enough room to sustain everyone. Though it was forbidden unless proved with an identification Humans needed to venture outside the wall. Especially since the people of the south have been unusually going missing. Lucia Elliot decides to escape her safe little haven whenever her close friend goes missing just outside the wall. When she finds this friend she ends up imprisoned guaranteeing his freedom. Lucia will have to play the game of killed or be killed in order to survive and return home. Luckily for her a certain monster is on her side.

It is not long before Jago, the ruler of Saffire, learns that a woman on Saffire is pregnant and he unleashes all his power to prevent the birth. Jago will not give up power. Demalynn is surprised to find out she is the Helper, but is astounded to learn the identity of the Gravidarum. Demalynn must battle to stay alive and fumbles towards the realization that Aiden is much more than a close friend. She is certain, with the certainty that only a seventeen-year-old can possess, that Aiden is her only true love. Demalynn is desperate to find a way back home until she must make a choice: stay with Aiden on Saffire or go back home and re-unite her family. There's no place like home.
