Short story challenge

Each week you get to decide a theme for a short story I'm writing. I'll pick a random suggestion from the comments and announce the winner when I've completed the challenge!

Please help me broaden my writing style and develop my technique, most forms of criticism are appreciated and incorporated.

I'm fluent in English and Afrikaans thus I know a lot about Afrikaanse history and the cultural aspects of my language. If you want me to do research about your interests, cultures and/or languages I'm up for that too.
