Pete Wentz, borderline alcoholic at the young age of 25, has never left home. He's spent his whole life watching from afar as his friends and family left him to fend for himself. Alone on the sidelines, his life has always been bland and boring. In the crowded city of Chicago, who would pay him any mind anyways?
Michael, codename Kobra Kid, doesn't have a home. His whole life has been focused on one task and one task only: defending those he loves. And he's one of the most important and well-known rebels in Battery City.
It's the Fourth of July, and Pete is definitely celebrating. In the dirty bar, he keeps out of everyone's way, his nose in a drink at all times. But his attempts at keeping invisible against the booming fireworks outside are thwarted when he is approached -- and nearly beaten half to death. When he wakes up after the fight, in an unknown and foreign place, the only thing on his to-do list is getting his phone working. However, after a chance encounter with a group of four ragtag men (three of whom insist on killing him), Pete realizes maybe his phone isn't the most important thing at the moment.
Clueless and scrawny Pete must learn to survive in his new life, his only friend -- Kobra -- leading him through the treacherous world of the Killjoys and the Draculoids.
Is death inevitable? Is love a possibility? How will Pete survive when he, his worlds, and his friends are threatened? Secrets will be revealed, betrayal will surface, and people will be tested.
