Melody is cousin of Harry Potter 'The boy who lived', her mother and father despised anything magical, including the wizarding world. 

The day that Harry Potter's parents died something magical happened to Melody. At the exact moment when Lord Voldemort had struck Harry with the Avada Kedavra curse and Harry deflected it, defeating Lord Voldemort. 

In the Dursley household Melody was sleeping in her crib in the nursery room that she and her older brother Dudley shared. Then a green mist started to form around her. Once Mr. and Mrs. Dursley came into the nursery room the mist went into Melody's wrist creating a symbol of a shield. 

At that exact moment Melody's destiny was set in stone she was meant to be a shield for Harry Potter in his fight against Lord Voldemort. 

Or a shield for Lord Voldemort.
