This is a Doctor Who fanfic, like you've never seen before.  Not a Doctor Who story, not quite, although it contains Doctor Who stories.  It's an alternate history story about the making of Doctor Who...

Or about a particular version of Doctor Who, in a particular time and place.

You see, in 1989, Doctor Who was cancelled.  Over the next few years, there were a multitude of attempts to relaunch the series, with everyone from Steven Spielberg to Leonard Nimoy.  Pretty much all of them came to nothing.  But what if one of those efforts had succeeded?

In 1992, there was a strange hoax - a local actor named David Burton started driving around a car emblazoned with 'The New Doctor Who.'  As fans and media followed up, he told a strange story of a private consortium, Millennium Productions, which had actually hired him to star in a couple of episodes of a pilot.  No such episodes have ever turned up, and the story is dismissed.  But what if it had been real?  What if they'd succeeded?

At first she thinks that this is normal, but when The Doctor shows up in his magic blue box and displays the same symptoms, she finds that she's not the only one who isn't getting rest. In fact, her along with the entire human race has had trouble sleeping. Clara tags along with the Doctor to find out what is causing this mysterious event that is overwhelming the entire human race. What they discover is something beyond shocking, that will change the way Clara and the Doctor see the human race and their involvement with extra terrestrial creatures. [ I haven't written a story on this page in a while, and I thought I'd give it another go. This Doctor Who fan fiction is loosely based and inspired by the already existing episode "Listen,"and "Sleep No More," written by Steven Moffat and Mark Gattis, respectively. I hope you enjoy :)]

This is Classic Who companion fanfiction . Back when we were teenagers watching Doctor Who reruns on PBS (Tom Baker on a loop, mostly), my sister and I created a spin-off series we called The Further Adventures of Leela, Andred and K9, or LAK. We had an audience of 1 - our younger brother - but we took this very seriously. We wrote (mostly on a vintage typewriter, later on our Apple IIc) in episodic fashion, similar to Classic Who usually 4 "episodes" per story. We plotted out "seasons," determining story arcs and storylines. We did this for about 4 years. Around the time of the 20th anniversary of LAK, I transcribed the first story (which was the only one we wrote together - after the first one we took turns writing the stories) for my sister. Then - I rewrote it as a novella. I imagine the audience for this would be vanishingly small, but here goes ...
