Dr. Madeleine Gerron, a nineteen-year-old genius already holding two PhDs who graduated high school at the age of twelve, has been asked to join the FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit, a team of highly qualified agents who analyze criminals' behaviors to solve cases. Influenced to join by a traumatic experience that involved her, her parents, and her younger brother, she finds that after a lifetime of not fitting in, the BAU is probably the one place where people understand her, especially the intelligent and seemingly attractive Dr. Spencer Reid.

Spencer hasn't thought about his childhood best friend in years-life moved on, and so did she. But one day, the BAU gets a new recruit: her. They both freeze the moment they see each other, surprised and overwhelmed by the coincidence. She's changed since they were kids: confident, sharp, and with an edge that wasn't there before. Meanwhile, she's surprised to see how Spencer has grown into himself, still carrying the same brilliant mind and kind heart she remembers. The two quickly fall into a rhythm, their old bond reawakening as they work cases together. But with the dangerous nature of their job, they must navigate not only their complicated feelings but also the fear of losing each other all over again.
