Unfortunately, that leaves just one option, for Trey's mysterious partner LP to intervene. For a Hero, he sure does have an off-the-books way of working that causes he and Rya to clash instantly. The more ingrained into her life the Supers become the more desperate Rya is to figure out who's targeting her, and more importantly, who LP is beneath the mask. Anyway, this is about two people. I can almost hear you rolling your eyes. Another cliché teen fiction with a bad boy and a good girl? Nope. This is about superheroes. I can still hear you rolling your eyes. Superheroes. Like in comic books? Like people with super speed and mutant powers? Yes. But this isn't about the fight they have. More about the lives they lead without the masks. But just keep in mind, people who live in the world have all different skin colours. Do not assume my characters are of one unless I state them explicitly. and diversity is welcome here in my novel! Anyhow, back to the story. Ever wonder where supervillains go after their fight with the hero? What about the other side of the story? It's not like they sit in their lair cackling all day and planning how to kidnap reporters. What about the lives they lead? And instead of just focusing on that, what if the superhero and the supervillain knew each other? I mean, can they see behind the mask? No, so their identities are secret. So what if the hero and villain were best friends? What if they were roommates? What if they were falling for each other? And what happens when they find out? Now, I assume you know all of these questions will be answered in this book. But hold on. It's going to take a while. You're in for a bumpy ride. And if any of you got any of the references in this description, give yourself a pat on the back. That is a beautiful thing. Since the dawn of time, humanity has been divided over various subjects. All of which are frankly, incredibly trivial. This being, but is not limited to race, religion, beauty, size, wealth, politics, and more. The heavy amounts of bickering and debating over these subjects, going as far as starting wars and in-fighting within families, even breaking some apart. This is further proven by the sudden appearance of enhanced individuals nicknamed "Blights," which single-handedly explains the general consensus about them. Hated and oppressed, Blights have had their backs against the wall for decades. Teenager Liam Wang must learn how to juggle both his civilian life and the life of his super-powered, crime-fighting persona "Narukami" and all that comes with it. The only problem is that the heroes disagree with her so-called 'lifestyle' and start a special task force in her name called D. O. A. Best known as the operation Dead. Or. Alive. The person specifically tasked to bring her in is none other than the great hero, Phoenix. He is best known for his smarts, good looks, and being a virtuous savior. But among people like Tempest, he is known as another overpowered, overrated hero no one can escape. Not even those blessed with super speed or teleportation can escape him. So, it should be effortless for him to catch her since she has no superhuman abilities. Except it's not. Tempest has a deadly virus no scientist, no government, no god can ever get rid of. So, when she finds out she is being hunted down by not only the hero society but the face of it, she turns to biological warfare. The few other people with the disease would never dare to do something like that, but Tempest would. If it guarantees her coming out on top, she will. Long ago a group of superheroes and villains worked together to prevent an invasion. But they managed to kill more people than they saved. I've been lucky enough that I don't have powers that attract too much attention --- Everything was going great. Everything was normal. Until Jamie was forced to confront the reality of her situation. The mayor who has been running the NSA was beginning to take drastic measures. Sending many supers off to another island. Stealing their powers. Forcing others to betray their own kind. Shortlisted for the Open Novella Contest 2019 • Being a Supervillain is tough. Between managing a secret lair and making sure your mom doesn't stop loving you because you keep telling everyone she's dead, it's a really hard business to be good at? Add to that, the fact that somehow you got arrested because your cat sitter didn't take the day off and then you go around expressing your unconditional love for pancakes in a Super holding cell because technically they can't put you in a proper prison and you don't really have a choice because lawyers are expensive? And then, you realise your best friend is plotting go take over your spot as the greatest villain there ever was? Okay, maybe not the greatest, but you do come pretty close to it! To top it off, there's that one Superhero who's just so completely gorgeous, you couldn't imagine any harm coming to them? Because they're just that precious? I guess that makes me a Supervillain with minor time travel superpowers and a huge crush on a not so powerful Superhero? And all you have to do is protect yourself and everyone you love from your ex best friend/sidekick --because let's face it that's the highest level of praise for a wretched traitor here--and you also have to get out of Super Holding somehow? It's no secret that some people use their unique gifts to do good, and some use them to do evil. Your classic heroes and villains, if you will. But what about the middle people? The people born with powers, not the kinds that let you fly, or crush cars with your mind, or turn your enemies into puddles of goo before you, the ones that are not quite considered "super". What are they supposed to do? Their powers aren't strong enough to categorize them as hero or villain. Imagine Knife Man or Spoon Girl with the power to control cutlery, do you honestly think they would hold up in a fight against anyone else? Being a superhero without powers is hard enough, being a superhero with a useless super power is damn impossible. Andrew, Carter, and Heather knew that their unique abilities would be worthless if they made themselves full time heroes or villains. Instead, they use their "uselessness" to their advantage. The trio makes their living in their own respected fields, but they come together as the best band of thieves in the world. Nobody would ever suspect three seemingly innocent young adults of 45 high profile theft cases. There is nothing extraordinary about them after all, no crazy hair colors, no fire blasting out of their mouths. It's the perfect cover. When the group steals a valuable, but at the same time worthless, artifact from a museum in Tokyo, they find themselves caught in the crossfire between the National Superhero League and a new super villain on the rise.
