My name is Delphine Martinez and I am intelligent.  I have wondered when women were praised for being intelligent.  I have wondered when eye color didn't matter.  I am female.  I have brown eyes.  I am property of Ellis Martinez.

In a world where trees are hoarded and indoor plumbing is virtually nonexistent, lives Delphine.  Delphine is 14 years old. It is female. Delphine is an it. She is property because she is a female.  She's considered 'dumb' because she has brown eyes. Why? We don't know.  The desired race is green eyes and blonde hair. If you're a women with green eyes and blonde hair you are still treated poorly but not as bad as Delphine. Delphine is considered trash. But the government was wrong. She is not trash.
