What if humanity could start again? Would they take the forbidden fruit on the tree, just out of reach, every time? Or would the plague of the past always haunt us?

********
The world has long ended. Earth had been taken by war and refuge, climate change, and greed. The doomsday clock had stopped.

Some of the lucky ones escape to Mars, a barely terraformed planet that they turn into their home.

Thousands of years after the dreaded Warming, two people receive a signal that will change their lives forever. As they continue to learn more about what it truly meant to be human, they feel more and more isolated from the rest of Mars.

One harbours a deadly secret. The other? They might be able to fix everything.

All they have to do is find the apple, hanging just out of their reach.

In the beginning, there was death. The darkness flows from hues of purple and orange, the moon rising to kiss the sun's rays one last time as the darkest cloud of night I've ever seen falls over our tiny haven. I catch Will's face from the side of my vision and my heart tightens slightly. The tick of his jaw wouldn't be noticeable for anyone but me. His best friend, his lifeline. A solemn tear forms in my eye as he wipes his face, another tear falling for the family he lost. I love him. Utterly and desperately so, but, there's nothing I can do about that. The ultimate forbidden fruit, if you will. I reach to comfort him and he doesn't respond. I open my mouth to speak and he looks my way, but the gleam in his dark brown eyes hits the moonlight just right and I fall. My voice escapes my throat and I can't do it. I've tried for years to tell him. 10 years, actually. All this time, I hopelessly remained devoted to a ghost who had given the best of himself to a fiery red-head with a sassy personality and the body of a supermodel. For 10 years, I held to the desperate thought that maybe, just maybe, he'd be someone I could count on. Instead, I watched him marry my best friend, smiled as they welcomed their son. Stood, holding that beautiful boy as his mother was in the first round of executions after the beginning of the Revelation. Helped heal Will's wounds in the aftermath. Cried, clutching the tear-stained shirt of my best friend as his son took his last staggering breath in that first harsh winter. The guilt of my emotions crawl through me. My heart twisting in regret, guilt, desperation, and grief. I loved my best friend. She was so much more than that; she was my family. In this dystopian quick read, join a group of people desperate to recapture their freedom and end a tyrant's reign.

Human DNA is composed of stars. Stars that have been broken down into nanoparticles that have dispersed themselves throughout the universe; they harness the energy of the cosmos and transitively embedded their limitless potentials in every fiber of conscious existence. Logically, there has to be a reason then as to why life was given to those on Earth. Why humans were given such divinities from the universe. After all, the saying goes, "everyone was born for a reason," meaning those born with unworldly energies must have been given life to fulfill an unknown purpose that is greater than themselves. We are only given a certain amount of time in this world to live up to our given potential because, just like the stars, humans also fade away. A star's glow is a result of a series of chemical reactions that are housed at its core. Similarly, our lives are like a series of chemical reactions, vibrant, unpredictable, chaotic. They only last for a certain amount of time before the limiting reagent is used up in its entirety, ceasing the continuation of spontaneity. All of us have a limiting reagent, a chemical that is used up first, which then halts the chemical reaction and stops its continuity. And unfortunately, some of us possess a more powerful limiting reagent than others, making their chemical reaction burn out quicker than others. In this society, when your time is up, it is up, there is nothing else to be done. Any form of medication or medical intervention that was not created naturally by the Earth is frowned upon. That form dilutes the existing energies and manifestations of limitless potential. It makes those who use it less than and, in a way, tainted by the inconveniences of man-made alterations. However, grief can push some to go extra lengths to make their chaos continue even if it is just for a little bit longer.

3518 A.D. Exactly 1500 years ago, Earth had been pushed to its limits and threatened to collaps on itself if we didn't act in time. Mankind didn't know what to do anymore and had declared our home doomed, our days numbered. That was, until the supernatural society decided to step up and take actions in their own hands. Creatures we thought never existed suddenly appeared out of their secret societies to safe Earth, to erase our mistakes and begin anew. They succeeded but parts of the world vanished for centuries due to the climate being completely out of the normal before it settled again and left the world at peace again. But not for mankind; all the other races had grown to dislike us, hate us. A witch hunt ensued and now only few of us are left. I've been running all of my life to remain free and alive, to survive and be as happy as humanly possible. My name is Thorn and I'm part of the last humans on our planet. Sadly, I'm not entirely human...
