During the final battle at Robotnik's fortress in Robotropolis, Sonic and his friends were captured. Dr. Robotnik robotized all of Sonic's friends, and made Sonic his personal slave. Sonic spends every day for three years in complete pain and suffering, but he still has hope. Hope that he will one day be free again and that Robotnik's empire will fall to his feet and release everyone he has lost.
