It's 2025, and the smell of sewage is running in the air. Our protagonist, John Presbyn is traveling through Manhattan to work. He doesn't pay much attention to the the events he watches on the news, but he hears that something is happening outside the island. Something is happening to the rest of the country, and slowly the city reveals to him what is happening around the world through his own terrified eyes.
