There are tons of writers on Wattpad, but many of their stories don't get the recognition they might deserve. This collection of interviews is a project of mine. I think that these writers should have their voices heard and I plan to help them with that!

Book of Contests (2024) by SeraDrake
180 parts Complete
To keep myself from losing track of: all the contests I've entered, all the contests I've volunteered myself as a judge (or let myself be voluntold into judging), all the books I've had to read as a contestant or as a judge, all the deadlines, and all the other important stuff, I've decided to create a book that registers all these things in a somewhat organized fashion. I can't remember who advised me to do that, but whoever you are, and there are probably several of you, thank you. I've been reading that it's extremely common for contests to be a bit sluggish with follow-up if a person wins a major prize and gets graphics and shout-outs, so I'll use this book to keep track of that, too. I had no idea so many people would be adding my personal convenience book to their own bookshelves, let alone voting for chapters - if my book of contests is useful to other people, that makes me happy. Very happy. However, I feel I must reiterate that although other people are welcome to browse my public contest logs and look for contests, look for information about details of contests (i.e. you want me to pour you some tea), etc, these contest logs are primarily for my own use. I enter so many contests that I can't keep track of them without a log. I forget important details, too, including things like "Note to self: You do not get along with this contest host, best not participate in their contests." This was never meant to be an "expose" book. I'm not exposing anybody. Contests are matters of public record, as are any comments made in the contest books. I'm just a ditz who needs a written log to keep track of everything. I would lose my head if it wasn't attached to my shoulders. The Standouts - A Critique Contest by PAULAPDX (Summer 2019 Edition) by paulapdx

🛑 - CLOSED until 2021. ***If you're interested in my critiques, you might want to check out my weekly newsletter for opportunities to get a personalized critique. https://paula.substack.com/p/coming-soon Does your work stand out in an overly-crowded landscape? Does your story & writing shine as far as: ★ - Concept ★ - Voice ★ - Storytelling The Standouts is a fun, but hopefully helpful contest that can give you a sense of whether your story resonates with someone who's got some experience under her belt. Great! But who are you to judge? Fair question. This is not to humble-brag, but I've been critiquing and have worked with story development for quite some time, and I've picked up a lot along the way. ☙ - As an Ambassador, I work on content projects. ☙ - If you look at my profile, you'll see everything I've published so far has managed to standout in one way or another, whether by leading me to become a Wattpad Star; or by winning a Watty (twice!); or by being picked as a Top 10 in major Wattpad contests (twice!); or being featured. All I'm saying is I'm no slouch. I'm not brilliant either. But I've got some experience around what can catch an agent, editor, or judge's eye, and I'd like to share that with the community. ☙ - In another lifetime, I used to work for HBO in Development and at ICM (the talent agency) in their writers' department which means I understand how professionals quickly gauge whether or not they'll take a closer look at a work and/or make an offer. This kind of insight can be helpful if you're planning to submit your work or even just want to stand out more here on Wattpad. ☙ - I used to provide critiques for three writers, all of them traditionally published. They seemed to value my insight. Read the RULES, LOGISTICS & PRIZES chapter for guidelines. All entries get a brief assessment of their first chapter, with winners getting more extensive critiques. Sound interesting? Give it a go! 😊
