Charles Edward Kaspbrak was ungracefully tall and oddly thin. He had shaggy brown hair and thick glasses that helped the only real medical problem he had.

One day when his father was found packing in the middle of the night, he convinces his dad to take Charlie with him. Blackmailed into giving in Eddie Kaspbrak took his son with him to his home town Derry, Maine.

When Charlie sees creatures pop out of fortune cookies at his Dads reunion with childhood friends, it becomes increasingly clear his dad nor his dads home town was as boring as he originally thought.

Winnifred 'Freddie' Marsh was proportionate and stood at a relatively average height. She had subtle ringlets in her brick red hair and light grey-blue eyes that judged her father's every breath.

In the middle of a rainy night, Freddie's mother and finally decided that enough was enough and took Freddie out of the house, her mother's wedding ring left behind. Unsure of where they're going, Freddie becomes confused when they stop at an Inn in Derry Maine.

After one of her moms friends is found to have committed suicide as previously known to her mother, Freddie comes to see that things are very serious for her mother and her mother's childhood friends.

It's only after she meets a lanky boy named Charlie Kaspbrak that they come up with a plan; a plan to both kill a homicidal alien clown, and to get their respective parents with their long time admirers.
