The Van Ness family is one of the few remaining families that are able to utilize magic in the New World.

Every member when they reach the age of 21 must cast a circle and summon their familiar.
It sounds simple, but for Odette Van Ness, she's terrified. Her family's expectations to have an adequate familiar worries her and the threat of what comes after should she fail, weighs on her.

Adrian Masson tries to keep a quiet life of work, family and staying out of other people's troubles, especially the Higher Class. He doesn't want to cause problems as he and his family try to be as inconspicuous as possible given what they are.
