Everyone gets a black spot where their soulmate first touches them that becomes a rainbow of colors when they touch for the first time. The spot appears when they turn sixteen; most have black handprints on their hands, others have the handprint on their arms. But Annabelle Hathway has a black handprint over her cheek, leading to some interesting assumptions from her classmates.

Carter Sullivan has been friends with Annabelle for as long as either of them cam remember, never wavering even when the mark appeared on her sixteenth birthday.

When her father is convinced of aiding a dangerous gang in stealing money, Annabelle sets out to prove his innocence. When things take a turn for the sores, Carter tries to get Annabelle to quit while she's ahead. But Annabelle isn't about to stop when she's so close to the truth.
