"You Sage, are just like this piece of popcorn." Seth says, as he gestures towards the piece he is holding. The piece which just fell from my pathetic attempt at throwing it up, and catching it in my mouth.

He smirks. It's his stupid 'I'm sexy and I know it' smirk again, and it immediately makes me suspicious.

"What do you mean?"

"You're already falling for me."

When Seth first kisses Sage, they have not just finished a long walk on the beachside during the sunset. They are not standing in the rain, soaking with each others' faces cupped in wet, desperate palms. They have not even, against all odds, just professed their undying love for each other after some tragic sort of misunderstanding. No, when Seth first kisses Sage, it is a hasty make out session in the back seats of the cinema, only initiated out of boredom and to hide his face from two whiny girls that he had been running away from. How romantic.

(Two childhood friends incidentally kiss and proceed to fall in love)

He asked softly, his thumbs wiping away the wetness from my cheeks. "No." I choked out. "Don't! I don't want to say it." "You said...Hi, my name is Alexis and I just moved into my grandparent's house across the street. Can I play with you? And I knew the moment I laid eyes on you...." "You were 10 years old, you didn't know shit." I croaked. "I may have been 10, but I knew a beautiful girl when I saw one. And you blew the rest of the world out of the water. I may have saved you by leaving you in Tennessee, but at least you still had your grandparents. I had no one if I didn't have you."

I felt a hand under my chin and then I was looking right into Aiden's eyes. "You know that I care about you, right?" He used the same hushed tone. Aiden cared about me? Well, I knew he cared about me, but I didn't know he cared about me. It makes sense. I shrugged. "I don't know," I replied back. "Well, I do. I care about you so much." He whispered. His next move surprised me. He leaned down and placed a soft kiss on my lips that lasted about two seconds before backing away. I looked at the ground, shocked. Oh my god. Aiden just kissed me. I tightened my ponytail, pulled my hoodie sleeves over my palms, and took a deep breath, ready to channel the energy the ice cream had given me. "Is it left or right?" I asked myself. "Definitely right. No way am I getting lost again." I shivered at the thought-I had a knack for misadventures, especially in the woods. Oof! I bumped into something solid. "Didn't see any walls on this trail. How did I just smack into a wall in a forest? Maybe it wanted a hug." "I love you too, darling," a voice chimed back. "Now get off before I pack you up and keep you forever." Wait, did the wall just talk? Had I stumbled into some fantasy realm? Perhaps I was in the enchanted Forest of Chatty Walls. With a shaky laugh, I pushed away and looked around. Sunlight filtered through the trees, casting a golden glow. For a moment, the absurdity melted away, and I felt the excitement of the same dream reoccurring. My thoughts drifted to him-the wedding where we met, his smile that turned my world upside down. Childhood friends, now navigating the uncertainties of adulthood. My heart raced at the thought of us finding our paths back together. I had a dream of writing romantic novels, but could I weave our story? The weight of our unspoken love pressed on me. As I walked deeper, I could almost hear the walls whispering secrets of love and destiny. This adventure felt like the perfect backdrop for our story of passion and the promise of a future together. Little did I know, I was about to discover the magic that could bring us back together, again and again.

I feel the breath of air on the back of my neck. My limbs freeze and my breath catches in my throat. The male hands grab me by the hips. I can't move. His lips are by my ear, grazing the skin, his teeth tugging on my earlobe. His breath is hot on my skin, his lips moving down to my neck. My head tilts slightly. I shake my head. He doesn't have a weapon, I do. I turn in his grip, raising my bat. He catches the swing with one hand. He doesn't even flinch. "I wouldn't do that baby." His voice is like velvet, filling up the room. His lips are back on my neck, his tongue trails over the skin. The voice, the lips, are familiar. "You might mess up my pretty face." "Pretty face, my ass." I let the bat drop to the floor in-between the two of us. I should've known. "What are you doing here?" "Besides scaring you shitless?" "You didn't-" "Don't lie, I saw what you did to those poor hangers." *** It's a game of cat and dog. A game that's lasted four years. A game that expires in three short months. It's a battle of wits, of sarcasm, of teasing one liners, of sloppy kisses that may lead to more but nothing passed physical. It's a game with no rules. And they seem to be breaking them all. Thea Shaw and Ethan Michaels have a complicated relationship. One that neither wants to come to an end. But with college nearing and feelings developing what will come of their little game? He promises her one last summer of underage fun; parties, sunsets, long talks, sweet kisses, and no talk of college until it's time to leave. There are only two ways this summer can end. Either in each other's arms or the breaking of their hearts. #4 in New Adult [COMPLETED]
