The human world does not exist. The only world that does exist is a world in which only a small handful of people have special abilities. These people are special, and they are valued above all else. From birth, those who have no special abilities are separated. They are taken into a room and strapped down. Eating and drinking are virtual, so resources are never drained. One of these dreamers is Allana, a fourteen-year-old girl living in poverty.  About to die, Allana does something that has never happened before: she gets out. Faced with an almost impossible transition into a secretly corrupted society, Allana struggles to find her place in this new land.
