Akai Homura was a girl, quirkless and tired, who wanted to be free. She so desperately tried to keep up a farce of happiness, but inside she had been hollow for much too long. So she said goodbye, and when the sky was at its prettiest point (in her opinion) she allowed herself to fall off a cliff in order to drown in the waters below.
