Anika Saen is as normal a girl as any other kindling. At least that's what she thought until she turned 16. She starts noticing things, finding things, that makes her question her entire life and change, not only her world, but everyone's. Was the legend she was told as a child just a legend or was it something more? Anika is the only one who can bring the ancients back.

Three girls starting at Maverick High. Each one has a unique secret that each keeps from everyone else they know. By fate, they were destined to be best friends: or worst enemies. Tsuki Hayashi is a sophomore at the high school, but her age is deceiving. Her eyes reflect more than she could ever know, and her cold elegance hides a storm. She's inherited the power of the moon, and she sees everything than happens in the night. But when she discovers the Sun and Star Guardians, she doesn't know what it will bring. (ATH) Alena Sandrum is also a sophomore at the high school. She inherited the power of the stars, beautiful and kind, but also distant. She finds comfort in her books and rarely speaks. But her eyes that absorb her surroundings and the words on the page, speak for them selves. Could these girls help her accomplish her destiny. Or destroy it? (AQ) Eliana Morane is an average sophomore, at least that's how she perceives herself. Sweet, bubbly and perky, her personality is just a ray of sunshine. Yet that metaphor may be a little more literal than she expects. When she learns that she is just a small puzzle peice in a bigger picture, she intends to meet her other fellow puzzle pieces, but they may not understand her light personality for they are shroud in darkness.
