India might have celebrated its 73rd Independence Day yesterday but it was truly the first Independence Day for the LGBT community. It seems like just yesterday when the Supreme Court decriminalized Section 377 on September 6, 2018, granting the members of the LGBTQ community the same sexual rights as any other citizen in India.
To celebrate this historic Independence Day, The Humsafar Trust- One of the first organizations in Asia working for LGBT community rights has shared a heartwarming version of National Anthem and we are all proud and emotional at the same time.
The film honours and features filmmakers, writers, activists and advocates of the LGBTQ+ community who have struggled for their equality by always standing with pride with them.
This short film has been scripted, conceptualized and created by Interactive Avenues, a digital arm of IPG Mediabrands India. One can spot various prominent LGBTQIA+ advocates and activists from NGOs and advocacy bodies in this video including The Naz Foundation, KASHISH Mumbai International Queer Film Festival, Sweekar - The Rainbow Parents, Umang LBT Group, and The Humsafar Trust, amongst others.
With this heartfelt version of the National Anthem, we all #StandWithPride!
