Oak, Vivi and Heather are all living in the mortal world, while Madoc an Oriana are trying to find Oak, as Madoc wants to use him to get to the throne, no matter how long that will have to wait.

Balkin has teamed up with the undersea and wants Nicasia to marry Cardan(like in The Wicked King) once again, for access to the throne. Orlagh, Nicasia's mother, is a ticking time bomb, as she threatens to cast war on the land.
All of this is going on while Jude is ruling Elfhame from behind Cardan, causing her to stand ring on the edge of her sanity.
She knows that the only help she's going to get is from The Court of Shadows, which is made up of The Roach, The Ghost and The Bomb. As well as Cardan, but he won't help her... will he?
