Shuichi Saihara is a well known Detective all throughout Japan, or at least...he sort of is. During his detective work he goes under the persona "The Shadow Detective". Hiding behind a mask most of his work is done behind the scenes so he rarely steps out into the public, thus this name was given to him by society. Shuichi's chosen to accept it.

But after deciding to put off detective work for a while a certain case drags him back into it. A notorious Phantom Thief has made himself known and the police force has been clueless how to stop them and their organization. So as a last resort Shuichi's called in to figure out how to arrest this uncatchable clown. Our story starts from there.
