Shao Kahn has successfully merged Edenia with Outworld and now he has his eyes set on Earthrealm. To invade he must win 10 consecutive rounds of Mortal Kombat over the span of 500 years. He has won 9 rounds, and now Earthrealm must make their final stand... in Mortal Kombat... to the death.

Prologue: Millions of years ago, Shinnok, one of the Elder Gods, turned on his fellow deities and invaded the Earthrealm. Raiden, the protector of Earthrealm, along with the Elder Gods stopped Shinnok. Locked him up in his own amulet. Others followed in Shinnok's footsteps, like Outworld's emperor Shao Kahn, who was obsessed with conquering realms. So the Elder Gods began the Mortal Kombat tournaments as a way to even the odds... give Earthrealm a chance. For generations, Shao Kahn followed the Elder Gods' rules. The war moved to the arena, where he sent his toughest fighters to challenge Raiden's greatest defenders in Mortal Kombat. The rules were clear, if Shao Kahn won ten tournaments in a row, he won. But if Earthrealm broke the streak, Kahn would have to start all over again. Outworld won nine tournaments.
