She spends her days numbered, afraid to fall in love with life. She avoids friends, and boys, and kids. She studies, works, and goes to school. She barely has time to sleep, time to eat, time to breathe. That's how she wants it to stay. She tells people she has no family, but in a neighboring town, there lives a little girl that spends her time awake wondering why her sister left. They haven't heard from her in months. The diagnosis hit them all hard but they were going to work through it and get her the help she needed. However, she didn't believe she could be helped. She didn't think she deserved to be saved. She made excuses time and time again but it all boils down to her feeling as though this was her punishment for being born. That she had no right to live. Until a fateful day comes where she meets a man that makes her world crumble even more but then offers her a way out. He provides her with a new way of thinking. https://www.yuumeiart.com/ I am not the creator of the picture used in the cover. You can find more of her works at the website listed above.

Lore has built up over the ages about creatures that live in the ocean, creatures of startling beauty, with the upper body of women, and the tails of fish. But what if these creatures were different from what we thought they were? What would happen when one of them needs help? Seeking out the aid of a teenage boy, who is more involved in their world than he knows. When Alex wakes up in the hospital, ranting about a girl and water, he is assured that his hallucinations were a side effect to almost drowning, and he was unconscious for nearly two days. He is released from the hospital, and life seems like it should return to normal...but he's still haunted by his "hallucinations" He still knows what he saw was real. He saw a shadow at the water's edge.
