Venus Von-Martin, a young and cultured woman, is drawn to a small town near the Cardigan Bay. There, she meets Beatrice Kingsley. Beatrice is a doe-eyed and rowdy girl, the daughter of a prolific farmer from the area. Venus is brought out to the Kingsley farm when a storm hits, trapping her there. Once the storm passes, Venus finds that it will be a long time before she can return to the city.
