Emerald Death

The High Order is an enclosed, isolated nation divided by social classes but united by fear of the Outsiders, who have fought them from the wasteland outside for over 30 years. To combat their vicious attacks, The High Order conducts a draft for all male and female citizens ages 16-24. If a person's name is pulled, they are placed into the Arena, a war simulation that places two teams, Sapphirus and Rubinus, against one another. Those who survive to the end become Royal Guards to Queen Aphrodite, and those who are killed are placed on the front lines of the war against the Outsiders, none of whom have ever returned.

Midori Emmei, a 15-year-old orphan in The High Order, was not meant to be eligible for the draft, yet her name is suddenly pulled. Despite her attempt to flee, she is forced into the Arena with low hopes for survival, crippling terror, and a vow to kill none. Upon her arrival, she is met with a veiled figure, who claims they will help her survive, but she learns as the simulation begins that this strange individual intends to use her virtual body to kill members of both teams.

As the war goes on and the two teams develop distinct distrust, the identity of the shadowed killer with emerald eyes becomes the primary concern for Sapphirus and Rubinus alike.
