Elizabeth (Lizzie) grew up in a foster home, after her parents died.  She has been troubled ever since. She goes by Lizzie.  She is close to her foster mother, but not her foster father. When Lizzie purchases an ancient mirror and hangs it up in her room, she think it's just a normal mirror. When her foster father pushes her, Lizzie falls through the mirror, ending up in an unknown world, fantasy like.  

Lizzie is in the world of Carnival Row.  Lizzie meets Philo, a police inspector for the Burgue, in the world that Lizzie has landed in.  His real name is Rycroft Philostrate but everyone calls him Philo.  Philo vows to get Lizzie back to her world, and he vows to keep her safe. 

When danger strikes and Lizzie is at risk, Philo does everything that he can to protect Lizzie. Philo & Lizzie become close.  What will happen?
