Two years after Shao Kahn's defeat, the Earthrealm has to face an old new enemy : the Fallen God Shinnok. Raiden, the Thunder God, and Sakuya, the Nature Goddess, will have to unite with the Special Forces lead by Sonya Blade to protect Earthrealm and save the souls of the fallen kombatants from Quan Chi's spell. So the Elder Gods began the Mortal Kombat tournaments as a way to even the odds... give Earthrealm a chance. For generations, Shao Kahn followed the Elder Gods' rules. The war moved to the arena, where he sent his toughest fighters to challenge Raiden's greatest defenders in Mortal Kombat. The rules were clear, if Shao Kahn won ten tournaments in a row, he won. But if Earthrealm broke the streak, Kahn would have to start all over again. Outworld won nine tournaments. On the tenth, the monk Liu Kang defeated Shang Tsung and won the tournament, keeping Earthrealm safe. Shao Kahn however, is not going to let victory be taken from him.
