Gerard Way, age 20, is a member of a poor family in Belleville, New Jersey, where he was born and raised.  He is stuck working for a company with a bad reputation because of a contract he signed when he was desperately searching for a good paying job to get his family out of poverty.  His dad is a raging alcoholic, his mom a drug addict, and his brother is too young to find a job.  He is stuck living with his abusive father until he can find enough money to move away.  His father's abusive behavior has caused him to fall down a rabbit hole of self loathing.
