Ember hid her pregnancy as long as she could before ending up on a public bathroom floor in labor. Her baby, born addicted to heroin, was immediately taken from her. Now if she has any chance of getting him back, she has to get clean, get a job and find a place to live. But the love of her life and best friend, Jesse, can't control his anger. How long can she continue to dodge his fists and stay clean while living in a dilapidated, abandoned house in Chicago?

West has just been released from prison after serving three years for a crime he can't bear to think about. Ember meets him at a court-ordered Narcotics Anonymous meeting, and the two form a close bond after hitting rock bottom. But as West falls more deeply in love with her, she starts to pull away.

One at a time, both must learn the hardest lesson of recovery; the only person you can fix is yourself.

I put my forehead on his, which was hard considering our hight difference. I cupped his cheeks and said, "have you hurt me yet?" "Kassie, I can-" "Shush. I don't care if your a psychopath or a murderer or a vampire because when I look into your eyes, I see fear and hurt. Something made you the way you are and that created this. This." I said poking his chest than mine. "Would we have met?" He smiled, "I guess not." Kassie Leah Rose is mute. She is a child at heart and a wise old man at the same time. Never underestimate her. Previously known as "Mental Love." 17 years old Violet Cavalli considers herself an outcast for lack of better words, but in her defence most of the people who meet her think so, being unfortunately stuck with Asperger's, she was prevented from doing a lot of the things children her age could do in a heart beat, but for the time being going to school was on the top of her to do list and when she's granted her wish, we all know that things can never be simple. Ian Wildon is considered the school's outcast, he was literally shunned by the rest of his fellow schoolmates for his lack of anger management and self control, but this never bothered him completely, he liked being isolated, away from any human contact in the company of a pallet, paint and a huge canvas. What would happen if a person who hates human interaction and a person who lacks the ability to communicate with others cross paths, but as much as its not necessary for them to communicate they both hold a soft spot for one another. The road will never be smooth, instead its going to be bumpy and full of obstacles but we should never underestimate the power of love, and how two outcasts fight their way through the tough world in order to pursue their love...
