The Penningtons and the Blackburns hated each other. But that didn't stop Mia Blackburn from helping a Pennington girl escape her brother Wesley's clutches. Now she has been kicked out of her family and left to fend for herself and her little brother. And the fact that the common people of Brenley are too scared to help her because of her family reputation, is not helping. Neither does the fact that the policemen have the complete permission from Wes to do with her what they wish if she goes to them for help. Now with nowhere to go, she approaches the Penningtons with the claim of helping the girl escape.

But they don't believe her because the girl never returned home. They take her in anyway but will she be able to cope with all the hate and suspicion? Especially from the broody Anthony Pennington who takes up the duty to make her life more of a living hell than it already is? Or will she find a home that she never found as a Blackburn?
