He revealed something that was supposed to be kept a secret so he forced her to sign a contract to keep her mouth shut or else there would be a serious problem. After having her by his side for months her contract ended but he refused to let her go.
He developed feelings that he once had in High School and promised himself never to feel like that again. But eventually broke that promise thirteen years later.
