Fall, 1982, The Vietnam Veterans Memorial was completed a few months ago. My family says I should go see it but I can't, I just can't. John Malford is a war veteran who came back to Wisconsin after 5 long years of service and 4 years of being a pow in the Vietnam War. But not everyone came back with him. A short-story about John and how he comes to terms with life.

He woke up in a hospital, doesn't know why he's there, doesn't know who he is, doesn't even know how he got there, and he's got a real bad headache. He's got a head wound the size of a baseball, he can't see with his right eye, and no matter how hard he tries, he can't get a straight answer for anything, except that mineshaft workers found him crystalized and immediately flew him to the 'hospital.' Nobody could figure out how long he was in the crystal, and the only thing he could remember was his name. I really hope you enjoy! A flight nurse, specifically, where she'd be on board with the men, aiding them when needed, her skills there to help save lives that would be lost if she weren't on board. Through this process, Simone met the men she would be stationed with, being those of the 100th Bomb Group. They all seemed okay in Simone's opinion- except for one, that is. John D. Brady, the bane of her existence- he was insufferable, always cranky, and for some reason hated her before she could even have a real conversation with him. The hatred was mutual, of course- however, the hatred was quick to morph into something different, something more friendly after the two encountered near-death situations. It was something that resembled love- something that was love, and it was so very clearly the one thing that was destined to save them in the end.
