It's the middle of the war and so far, Hermione, Harry, and Ron have been in it together. That is, until Hermione is given a secret task by the deceased Dumbledore. Will she be able to complete it? Will she even truly know what it is that she is supposed to do?

~excerpt:

Tom propped himself up onto his elbows slowly as to not startle the witch. It wasn't out of consideration, he just didn't want to startle her in case she drew her wand. He realized he was making excuses in his head as to why he lingered in her touch. If Tom was to succeed in the future that he had planned out, he would have to figure out what was wrong with him.

"You're awake," said Hermione with a small, friendly smile, one he had not seen from her before.

Tom narrowed his eyes. He noticed that it was becoming difficult to glare with each passing day. "You were running your fingers through my hair," accused Tom.

She frowned. "I did?" asked Hermione puzzled.

They were supposed to be best friends, sisters even. A hand wrapped around her wrist. "Go away Ginny." She bit the words out. A low chuckle rumbled behind her. "Too bad I'm not the Potter." Why did he have to follow after her! "Go away, Malfoy." The hand dropped away from her wrist. "So, it's Malfoy again." The pain in his words brought Hermione to a halt. "Why did you follow after me?" She whispered without turning around. Draco chuckled and she could imagine him running his hand through his hair. "It's quite obvious why Ginny did this." Hermione turned around to look at him, stunned that he had called Ginny by her name. He brought his eyes to meet hers and laughed. "Apparently, not that obvious." He continued when she remained quiet. "She's playing matchmaker." Ginny was doing what! Hermione was going to have to have a long chat with her friend. "I'll tell her to stop." She said tersely. "Why?" Did he really just ask her why? He should be the one to know why, Hermione had told him the reason why they would never be together. Then she remembered his words from that day, he had told her that she was worth the wait. . . . . . . . Characters belong to J.K Rowling.

***PREVIEW*** ~~~~ A moan escaped her, and he abruptly ended the passionate moment. He pulled away, leaning his forehead on hers, their heavy breaths mixing in the space between them. Malfoy's thumb caressed Dahlia's cheek, and her eyes fluttered open to meet his. "You aren't expendable to me," Draco hissed forcefully. "Do you understand?" Dahlia couldn't form words. She tried, but none came so instead she nodded. "Words, Dumbledore, use your words." Hissing at the use of her surname, she looked up at him and snarled, "Understood, Malfoy." He didn't seem put off by her anger. Rather, he seemed pleased with himself. He gave a nod to her, and then locked eyes with Harry for half a second. The boys seemed to have a silent, nonverbal conversation before Potter inclined his head to the Slytherin, who did the same. Then the blonde boy disappeared through the flap of the tent. ~~~~~~~~ Dahlia Dumbledore is a young girl with a confusing past.
