I met Shepley in the basement of a frat house the weekend of winter break. She wasn't exactly girlfriend material at the time; smoking weed like a pro, dancing like no one was watching, and when she took me to a deserted room upstairs? Well, let's just say Shep had a long ways to go before she was ready to be someone's girlfriend. But it wasn't her fault, really. Shepley's the product of an affair. Her dad never wanted her and it showed. To make matters worse, her mom, while physically present, was mentally as well as emotionally absent and didn't seem to care whether or not Shepley was at home studying or out getting fucked up to the point I needed to call her a cab to get back home. Shep was a trainwreck, to say the least.

I think that's why I was so interested in her. She didn't want a boyfriend.

Daniel, however, really couldn't care less about a career in football, he loves the game, but it's his dad's dream for him to go pro, not his own. At least not anymore. He spends most of his free time away from his house and hanging out at either the Thomas or the Copperfield house. He can't wait to go off to college with his friends and get away from his dad and the stupid little town he grew up in. How will things change for them over the next year? This will be a series of 4, but the other books will be spin-offs and can be read as stand-alone books. They will, however, be published in chronological order. Full warning, this book is much shorter than I intend on making the spin-offs. I was planning on writing book two as the first in the series but found myself needing more of a prequel to all three other books, and so I chose to write something from their high school years. Bonus points for giving Daniel a love interest that was more than just a name.

It might be a cliché romance, but it will be fun to see what the year and beyond holds. ------------------------------------------ This is a story I wrote years ago, or at least partially wrote. As I transcribe it here, I have tried to update it a bit and give the characters/story more depth than what I had when I was younger. Hopefully it all gets pulled together!
