WHY IS THIS STILL GETTING READS IT'S FREAKING 2022 HELP Dream grew up in a world where when you turn 16, you cough up your first flowers. It's not very painful at first, but the flowers get bigger and more frequently coughed up over a span of 2 years. If you haven't found and kissed your soulmate by the time you turn 18, you die of the "disease." The flowers are your soulmate's favourite color(s). Their gender is shown by what kind of flower it is: buttercups for female, roses for male, and oleanders for any others. My soulmate AU is a bit different than others tho (I think). It branches off of the hanaki disease, but without the one-sided love. If a monster and a human are paired together, the human gains the drawbacks of the bond, getting said disease. Bonds such as this are rare, but apparently not TOO rare for your case. The only way to rid yourself of the disease is to mix the flowers with your bonded's blood (monsters don't bleed, but as a substitute, they can infuse a small amount of HP into the mixture to have the same affect). This antidote is unknown, as is the sickness, due to it being mostly off the records for decades. There are some small studies on it though, but most humans don't find their monster soulmate. Lucky for you, the fates are cheering you on.

Evan always tried to hide his flowers. It was pointless, almost everyone had them, but their flowers were bright yellows and pinks that made them look like walking flower bouquets. His were dark colors - blacks, reds, browns, and purples - that made him look morbid and intimidating. And his flowers stood for the worst things too. While Jared was covered in bright pink flowers that meant heartbreak, Evan had a huge, red, zinnia on the back of his neck that meant depression, dark purple irises on his arms, legs, and face that meant bruises, and black flowers lining his wrists meaning self harm.
