*completed* An old friend. A new invitation. And a life Jay couldn't even imagine-until he sees what's really going on behind the glass towers of Chicago's elite. Detective Jay Halstead hasn't heard from Maurice Campbell in years-not since they took two different paths out of the same South Side streets. But when Maurice resurfaces, successful, charming, and living high above the city in a penthouse built on secrets, it seems as if nothing had changed between them. Jay becomes part of partys, drinks and poker and gets a glimpse into a life that looked nothing like the streets they came from. But beneath the surface, something's off. The kind of off that sits too quiet. That watches too closely. That hides behind designer suits and perfect smiles. The bruises no one talks about. The tension no one dares to name. The laughter that sounds a little too loud, a little too wrong. The carefully measured calm in his voice. The shadows that pass too quickly across her face-until they don't. It's not a love story. It's a story about silence. And what happens when it finally breaks. this fanfiction is also published in German # 1 in detectivejayhalstead 26.09.2025
