Je rok 1985. V Sovětském svazu umírá prezident Černěnko. Přichází Michail Gorbačov. V tu dobu noční recepční Jarmilka vypráví každé ráno příběhy z hotelu Štefanovi. Štefan je bývalý komunista,  který za trest překládá povídky o lásce. Jednou ráno mu Jarmilka odvykládá, jak v noci z hotelu narychlo odjížděl kapitán soukromého letadla s podivnou posádku a podezřelým letovým plánem směr Afrika. Štefana přepadne strach.
