The gods knew of his anger towards the goddess, so the majority voted 'yes' for his punishment. Of course he didn't do it. It was a doing of a higher being. But our favourite guy had to suffer. Now, he is in Tartarus, trying his best to escape from the clutches of the God of the Pitt. But remember, time is different there.
