Pretty simple to understand. 

Shadow hunters hadn't much problem dealing with demons, but what they did had problem dealing with the downworlders. 

Shadow hunters had never been in good terms with downworlders. But why is that? Whose fault is it?
Alec thought until he finally found the answer.

When he told it to his family no one believed him, not even his beloved sister Izabelle.So he run away to find more evidence.

Five years had past when they need to find Alec, and of course they need help. But whose? no one knows where is Alec and neither how to find him.
