Emma and her twin brother Sam have been in servitude to the Ashton family for many years. Ever since the late Lady Ashton found them orphaned on the street. The same age as her daughter, Ella, they quickly befriended her and have stuck by her side through the death of both her parents and the wrath and mistreatment of the new Lady Ashton, her stepmother. With the help of her younger stepsister Anna they antagonise the cruel woman and try to plan a legal way to instate Ella as Lady of the House. Then the invitations for the prince's ball come out. Emma is determined to get Ella there for a night off despite her stepmother forbidding her. But when what was supposed to be a night off turns into all the drama of sitcom what is she supposed to do?
