In her twenty-one years of living, Lu Kelly never imagined that she would be a water girl. Getting accepted into her dream school, UCF, on a sports scholarship means pursuing a passion in the arts whilst balancing a major in Psychology and the very reason as to why they got her - soccer. Her freshman self, starry-eyed and completely ambiguous to the woes of the real world, envisioned a 4.0 GPA and a secure spot on the senior team, but when a video of a drunk sophomore Lu resurfaces on the internet during sports season of junior year, her hope of becoming team captain is stalled when she gets suspended until the end of fall, jeopardising everything she has ever worked for. Not only is she benched out for too many important games, but she gets pushed around as the team's water girl.
Matt Schulz has a bright future ahead of him, and it's not because he's a devout Business major or a star athlete. He just knows how to play his cards right. Charismatic, entitled, and quick-witted, he basically holds UCF in the palm of his hand. All he needs to do is smooth talk his way through senior year, appear at parties, and pretend to like basketball. However, one mishap is all it takes to tip the scales, leaving him with no choice but to face the consequence that is Italian Renaissance Art. Because at the end of the day, IRA is his ticket out of the hellhole that is college, but when he discovers that his seat mate is water girl, he can't help but feel prejudice. Despite the unexplainable hostility they have for each other, sparks fly and the fine line between love and hate, making it and losing everything, blurs.

He warns her about his past, about his name, but she ignores all the red flags, not realizing exactly how intertwined she is with the people from his past. He becomes enamored with her, feels like she was made for him while still battling the demons of his past and soon it all becomes too much for him to handle.
